The Government of Saint Kitts and Nevis is expanding support for households struggling with outstanding electricity and water accounts, with new reconnection measures designed to help families restore essential services.
The latest initiative builds on the government’s Independence 40 Reset, which previously helped residents address utility arrears and regain access to electricity and water. The government is now working with SKELEC and the Water Services Department on additional assistance.
Under SKELEC’s “Reconnect 15” promotion, eligible customers can make a 15% down payment on outstanding electricity accounts and begin the reconnection process. The programme also includes a reduced reconnection fee and, in qualifying cases, salary-deduction arrangements.
Water customers with disconnected services or significant arrears are also being encouraged to contact the Water Services Department to explore reconnection options.
The measures are aimed at helping households remain connected to essential services while managing continuing cost-of-living pressures.
The government says the programme combines immediate household assistance with arrangements that allow customers to regularise their accounts over time.
