A criminal investigation is underway following a forensic audit of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force, raising fresh questions about internal accountability and oversight within the territory’s law-enforcement service.

Commissioner of Police Fitz Bailey confirmed the investigation during a national press conference on October 15, according to a report published by The SUN on October 19, 2026. The audit had been commissioned by Governor Dileeni Daniel-Selvaratnam.

Bailey said he had been briefed on the audit and provided with copies after taking up his appointment. However, he declined to discuss the findings in detail while the criminal investigation remains active.

The commissioner also confirmed that Special Constable Phil Branch, who served as Head of Operational Support, had been placed on leave in connection with the audit investigation. Officials have not publicly specified the conduct under examination or indicated when the inquiry might conclude.

Bailey did not say whether the investigation would result in criminal charges. The findings have not been fully disclosed, and no conclusion about wrongdoing should be drawn while the investigation continues.

The development brings renewed attention to police accountability, internal controls and public confidence in law enforcement across the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Authorities have yet to announce the outcome of the investigation, leaving the public awaiting further information as the process continues.
