The BVI Airports Authority has begun a series of emergency simulation exercises at the Virgin Gorda and Anegada airports, with the drills designed to test the territory’s aviation emergency-response readiness.

The exercises at Auguste George International Airport in Anegada and Virgin Gorda International Airport are scheduled from October 7 through November 17, 2026. They are being conducted during normal airport operating hours.

According to the Airports Authority, the simulations will test emergency procedures, response times and the performance of airport emergency personnel and external agencies. The exercises are being carried out in accordance with Overseas Territories Aviation Requirements, including OTAR Part 178 and OTAR Part 139.

Residents and visitors should expect increased emergency-service activity around the two airports while the exercises are taking place. The Authority said public announcements will be made on simulation days to prevent the activity from causing unnecessary alarm.

The programme is part of the BVI’s ongoing effort to maintain aviation safety standards and ensure that emergency teams can respond effectively to incidents involving the territory’s airports.

The exercises place emergency preparedness and aviation safety in focus as the BVI continues strengthening its transportation infrastructure and international air gateways.
