Dominica’s voter-confirmation exercise has officially ended, but eligible citizens still have an opportunity to register as the country continues its electoral preparations.

The Electoral Office confirmed that the voter-confirmation period closed at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, after months of activity across the island’s 21 constituencies. Continuous voter registration resumed on Friday, October 16, at designated registration offices.

Chief Elections Officer Anthea Joseph reported that 36,861 applications had been received by the deadline. The Electoral Office said this included applications from existing voters seeking confirmation and people applying for new registration. Officials also noted increased public participation during the final days of the exercise.

The Electoral Commission had decided on October 7 not to extend the confirmation deadline. However, the end of that process does not mean that voter registration has stopped. Eligible individuals can visit the designated registration offices to begin or complete registration under the continuing arrangements.

Registration offices are scheduled to operate on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. They are closed on Wednesdays and Sundays. Citizens should confirm the applicable arrangements with their local office before visiting.

The issue remains politically significant as voter eligibility, electoral administration and public confidence continue to feature in Dominica’s national debate. The next challenge is ensuring that eligible citizens understand the new registration arrangements and can complete the process in time for any future election.
