Anglican Cathedral College (ACC) has opened a modernised computer laboratory following a $95,000 investment aimed at strengthening digital learning and preparing Belizean students for technology-driven careers.

The refurbishment, supported by philanthropist Lord Michael Ashcroft and the Waterloo Group Charitable Trust, marks a new chapter in the school’s computer education programme, which began in 1994 when the Michael A. Ashcroft Foundation helped establish its first computer laboratory.

The upgraded facility includes 32 new desktop computers, laser printers, a 3D printer, new desks and chairs, and two 65-inch televisions that teachers can use for demonstrations and classroom lessons.

Four additional computers have been equipped with software designed to support students who need extra help with literacy and numeracy. The combination of improved equipment and specialised learning tools is intended to support a wider range of educational needs.

The new laboratory is expected to give students better opportunities to develop skills in coding, research, digital design and content creation. These abilities are increasingly useful for university studies, technical training, entrepreneurship and employment in fields influenced by artificial intelligence.

Students also stand to benefit from faster computers and more comfortable workspaces, addressing problems with slow devices and limited seating in the previous facility.

The investment renews a technology initiative that has supported generations of Belizean students for more than three decades. Its long-term value will depend on how effectively the school integrates the equipment into lessons and gives students regular opportunities to build practical digital skills.
