Saint Vincent and the Grenadines has taken another step toward strengthening its digital infrastructure workforce, with 23 participants completing specialised training in fibre-optic technology.

The programme was delivered through a partnership between the National Centre of Technological Innovation (NCTI) and the National Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (NTRC). Training began on September 14 and concluded on October 23, 2026, combining four weeks of online instruction with a final week of practical training in Kingstown.

Participants learned technical skills related to fibre-optic networks, which are essential for high-speed internet connectivity and reliable data transmission. The programme was facilitated by instructors from Trinidad and Tobago-based General Communications & Networking Services.

Four students from the Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Community College (SVGCC) participated through scholarships awarded by the NTRC. Successful participants will receive an internationally recognised certificate from the Electronics Technicians Association International, potentially supporting employment opportunities in SVG and overseas.

The initiative comes as demand for reliable broadband and digital services continues to grow across the Caribbean. Building local expertise in fibre installation and outside-plant network maintenance can help telecommunications providers expand coverage, maintain infrastructure and respond to technical challenges.

NCTI and NTRC say the programme marks the beginning of a broader partnership to make specialised technology training more accessible to Vincentians and neighbouring countries.

The completion of this first training programme gives 23 participants new technical skills while supporting the wider goal of a stronger, more digitally capable workforce in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
