Ninety-five micro, small and medium-sized businesses in Belize have received a combined BZ$788,000 in financial assistance, following the completion of a programme designed to help local entrepreneurs strengthen operations and expand their businesses.

The Belize Enterprise Empowerment Project (BEEP) concluded with a closing ceremony on October 23, 2026. Relaunched by the Belize Trade and Investment Development Service (BELTRAIDE) in August 2024, the initiative was developed with the Caribbean Development Fund to address financing and business-development gaps.

The programme supported businesses at different stages, including start-ups, established enterprises looking to grow and companies preparing to enter export markets. Beneficiaries came from a range of sectors, including creative industries, artisan production, floral services, digital marketing and other product-based businesses.

Beyond financial assistance, participants received business advisory services, capacity-building support and practical training intended to improve management, formalise operations and prepare enterprises for sustainable growth. BELTRAIDE Deputy Executive Director Monique Usher said the programme also gave entrepreneurs opportunities to learn from one another and share experiences.

The initiative represents a significant support effort for Belizean small businesses, many of which face challenges accessing finance, technical guidance and the resources needed to expand. Stronger business capabilities can help enterprises improve their operations and pursue opportunities in domestic and international markets.

The completion of BEEP puts a spotlight on the importance of combining funding with business knowledge and mentorship to help Belize’s entrepreneurs build more resilient enterprises and contribute to economic activity.
