Belize is preparing to send 34 young athletes to Guatemala for the 2026 CODICADER Disability Games, a regional competition celebrating sporting ability, inclusion and determination among young athletes with disabilities.

The Games are scheduled to take place from October 25 to 31, 2026, bringing together participants from across Central America. Belize’s delegation has 63 members, comprising 34 athletes and 29 coaches, officials and support personnel.

The athletes will compete in athletics, boccia and goalball. They come from 10 schools across the Belize, Cayo, Toledo and Orange Walk districts, representing young people with a range of disabilities who meet the competition’s eligibility requirements.

The National Sports Council held a send-off ceremony on October 17, with Minister of Tourism, Youth, Sports and Diaspora Relations Anthony Mahler and Minister of State Devin Daly among those offering encouragement to the team. Officials recognised the contributions of coaches, teachers, parents and organisations helping athletes prepare for the regional event.

This marks Belize’s third appearance at the CODICADER Disability Games. The competition gives athletes an opportunity to gain international experience, test their skills against regional peers and represent their schools and country on a wider stage.

Beyond medals and results, the team’s participation highlights the importance of accessible sport and creating meaningful competitive opportunities for young Belizeans with disabilities. Supporters will be watching as the athletes begin their campaign in Guatemala.
