Motorists across Saint Vincent and the Grenadines are seeing a major change at the pumps today, with gasoline prices falling by EC$1.02 per gallon while diesel prices move in the opposite direction.

The new fuel prices took effect on Monday, October 26, 2026, following an announcement by Prime Minister and Finance Minister Dr. Godwin Friday in the House of Assembly. Gasoline has dropped to EC$17.29 per gallon, offering some relief to private motorists and drivers who depend on petrol for daily transportation.

Diesel users, however, face higher costs. The price of regular diesel has increased by EC$0.04 to EC$17.57 per gallon, while low-sulphur diesel has risen by EC$0.33 to EC$17.73 per gallon.

The government has attributed the changes to movements in international oil markets. It is also maintaining the 50% reduction in excise taxes on gasoline and diesel introduced in May 2026, as part of efforts to limit the impact of volatile global energy prices on Vincentian households and businesses.

The government is also supporting electricity consumers through subsidies to VINLEC. Prime Minister Friday reported that EC$798,591 was provided to the utility in October, bringing the total subsidy since May to EC$3.9 million. The support is intended to reduce the effect of fuel costs on electricity surcharges.

The latest adjustment may benefit petrol-powered vehicles, but higher diesel prices could add pressure for operators of trucks, buses and other diesel-dependent services.

Motorists should check the updated pump prices before filling up, while businesses will be watching how fuel and electricity costs affect transport, deliveries and operating expenses in the weeks ahead.
