Saint Lucia’s 2026 Christmas barrel concessions will take effect on November 1, giving eligible households an opportunity to import qualifying goods with customs duty relief during the holiday season.

The government has approved the annual concessions for the period November 1, 2026, to February 28, 2027. Under the programme, each household may qualify for concessions on up to two barrels, with an assessed value limit of EC$3,000 per barrel.

Eligible goods include personal items, food, clothing, toys and other household consumables intended for personal use. Electronic items are excluded from the concession, and goods imported under the programme must not be used for commercial purposes.

The approved measures provide a 100% waiver of customs duty on qualifying items. The government has also approved measures to exempt eligible barrels from Value Added Tax (VAT) and the Health and Citizen Security Levy during the concession period. However, a 6% Customs Service Charge still applies.

The annual initiative is intended to offer some financial relief to households receiving barrels from relatives and friends overseas, particularly during the Christmas period when families often send food, clothing, gifts and other essential supplies.

Residents and overseas senders should check the eligibility rules before packing or shipping a barrel to avoid unexpected charges. Items exceeding the qualifying conditions or intended for resale may not receive the concession.

With the concession period just days away, households are being encouraged to plan shipments carefully and understand the limits before sending their Christmas barrels to Saint Lucia.
