Dominica’s emerging swimming talent is making waves across the Caribbean after Emerald Aquatics Club returned from its first regional competition with three bronze medals.
The 10-member team competed at the 14th Annual 2026 Ocean Spray Short Course Nationals, held on October 10 and 11 in Rodney Bay, Saint Lucia. The meet featured approximately 205 swimmers representing seven clubs, giving the Dominican athletes an opportunity to test their abilities against experienced regional competitors.
Three swimmers reached the podium. Kerniya Seaman earned bronze in the women’s 400-metre freestyle, Khalil Seaman secured bronze in the men’s 100-metre breaststroke, and Zurie Charles took third place in the 200-metre freestyle.
For many members of the squad, this was their first experience competing at regional level. Head Coach Daley described the result as an important milestone, emphasising that the swimmers’ determination and willingness to embrace new challenges were just as valuable as the medals.
The club has acknowledged that limited access to adequate training facilities and regular high-level competitions remains a challenge for swimmers in Dominica. Support from sponsors, coaches and national stakeholders helped the team participate in the Saint Lucia meet.
Emerald Aquatics now hopes to compete in more regional events, giving its young athletes the experience and exposure needed to improve their performances and pursue bigger goals in Caribbean swimming.
The three-medal result offers a promising boost for Dominican aquatics and a reminder of the potential of young athletes when they receive opportunities to compete.
