The British Virgin Islands is accelerating its digital transformation agenda, with Government moving forward on a comprehensive strategy designed to modernise public services and strengthen the Territory’s digital infrastructure.

The initiative officially began with a six-month digital transformation engagement that includes a digital maturity assessment, strategy development and an implementation roadmap. The objective is to create a clearer framework for how government agencies use technology to deliver services.

The strategy comes alongside other technology projects already underway across the Territory. Government has been expanding online services, including digital payments, application tracking and the digitisation of vehicle and driver licensing processes.

Officials are also looking at telecommunications modernisation. A review of the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission Act is intended to support emerging technologies including 5G and satellite connectivity, potentially improving communications infrastructure across the BVI.

The digital transformation programme could significantly change how residents and businesses interact with government, reducing paperwork, improving service efficiency and creating more accessible online services.

The initiative also supports the BVI’s wider ambition to become a smart, digitally connected Territory while strengthening its competitiveness in financial services and other technology-driven industries.
