Anguillian citizens and residents receiving medical treatment in Colombia have been confirmed safe following a powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake, according to Health Minister Cardigan Connor.

The earthquake struck near San José del Palmar on August 10 and caused significant damage and casualties across affected areas. Anguilla’s Ministry of Health maintained contact with healthcare facilities, including Clínica de Occidente, to monitor the wellbeing of patients receiving treatment.

Officials also received confirmation that healthcare facilities and nearby accommodation used by patients were assessed and found to be structurally safe.

The incident highlights the importance of Anguilla’s international healthcare partnerships, which allow residents to access specialised medical services that may not be available locally.

The Health Ministry said it remains in contact with relevant healthcare providers and liaison officers in Colombia as the situation develops.
