Guadeloupe Road Checks Record 173 Violations as Traffic Safety Concerns Grow

POINTE-À-PITRE, Guadeloupe — Road-safety authorities in Guadeloupe have intensified enforcement following a weekend of targeted traffic checks that recorded 173 violations and 26 driving licences retained.

According to the latest road-safety report published on September 16, the weekend operations involved motorcycle gendarmes conducting checks across the archipelago. Authorities identified offences involving alcohol, drugs and other dangerous driving behaviour.

The enforcement comes as Guadeloupe continues to face serious road-safety concerns. The departmental road-safety observatory reported 27 people killed on the territory's roads since the beginning of 2026, including 19 road users identified in the latest assessment.

The latest figures are putting renewed attention on speed control, impaired driving, licence enforcement and road-user safety across Guadeloupe.

Authorities are expected to maintain traffic checks as part of efforts to reduce serious crashes and prevent further road deaths.
