ROSEAU, Dominica — Dominica is moving forward with plans for a major US$75 million cruise village in the Roseau North constituency, a development expected to bring new investment and economic activity to the capital area.
Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said plans for the project are advancing, with a formal agreement expected to be signed shortly. The proposed development is expected to strengthen Roseau North's connection to the growing cruise and tourism economy.
The US$75 million investment could generate opportunities for construction companies, local suppliers, tourism operators, retailers and other small businesses linked to the visitor economy.
The project also comes as Dominica seeks to expand tourism revenues and attract greater private-sector investment. Tourism Minister Denise Charles Pemberton recently said the country is targeting an EC$1 billion tourism industry, following continued growth in the sector and major infrastructure development.
Dominica's wider economy has also benefited from activity in construction, retail, trade and tourism. The International Monetary Fund reported that the economy expanded by an estimated 4.5 percent in 2025, after 3.5 percent growth in 2024.
For businesses in Roseau and across Dominica, the proposed cruise village could become an important new source of commercial activity as the country works to capture more value from its expanding tourism sector.
With a formal agreement reportedly expected soon, the proposed development is likely to be closely watched by investors, entrepreneurs and residents looking for details on construction timelines, employment opportunities and the project's long-term economic impact.
