PARAMARIBO, Suriname — Suriname has officially opened a National High-Performance Sports Academy aimed at advancing elite athletic performance through world-class coaching, sports science, and innovative training technologies.
Government officials, national sports federations, coaches, sports scientists, medical specialists, and educational institutions announced investments in biomechanics laboratories, AI-powered performance analysis, athlete recovery centres, nutrition programmes, and youth talent identification systems.
Officials stated that investing in modern sports infrastructure is essential for producing internationally competitive athletes while promoting healthier lifestyles among young people.
The academy will support athletes competing in athletics, football, swimming, volleyball, basketball, martial arts, and other Olympic and regional sports through personalized training, injury prevention, mental performance coaching, and scientific performance evaluation.
Sports scientists welcomed the initiative, highlighting wearable performance technology, motion capture systems, reaction analysis, and individualized fitness programmes designed to maximize athletic potential.
