SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — Puerto Rico has unveiled a new national sports initiative focused on the opening of a High-Performance Aquatics Centre designed to advance elite athlete preparation through modern training facilities, sports science, and world-class coaching.

Sports authorities announced investments in Olympic-standard swimming pools, diving platforms, underwater performance analysis systems, biomechanics laboratories, sports medicine clinics, recovery facilities, and strength and conditioning centres.

Officials emphasized that investing in advanced sports infrastructure will strengthen Puerto Rico's international competitiveness while creating greater opportunities for youth athlete development.

The centre will support swimming, diving, water polo, artistic swimming, open-water competition, coaching education, sports nutrition, and talent identification programmes across the island.

National coaches welcomed the initiative, highlighting the benefits of digital performance analytics, injury prevention technologies, physiological testing, and individualized athlete development plans.

Sports medicine specialists praised the inclusion of rehabilitation services, recovery technology, physiotherapy, and wearable performance monitoring systems that improve athlete wellbeing and long-term performance.

Educational institutions and community sports clubs will collaborate with the centre to expand youth training programmes, scholarships, and grassroots aquatics participation.

Community leaders also welcomed the project, describing it as an opportunity to encourage healthier lifestyles while inspiring future generations of Puerto Rican athletes.

Officials confirmed that additional sports infrastructure projects and international coaching partnerships will continue as part of Puerto Rico's long-term sports development strategy.
