GEORGETOWN, Guyana — Guyana is seeking to attract new international investment and strengthen commercial ties with Qatar as President Irfaan Ali begins a three-day state visit to the Gulf country.
The visit, which began on September 7, 2026, is focused in part on pursuing new investment partnerships and expanding economic cooperation between Guyana and Qatar.
Guyana's rapidly expanding economy has increased interest from international investors, particularly in energy, infrastructure, construction, logistics, agriculture and other emerging sectors.
The Qatar engagement provides Guyana with another opportunity to present investment prospects and build relationships with major international businesses and investors.
The Government has increasingly emphasized economic diversification and attracting investment beyond the country's rapidly expanding oil industry. Stronger international partnerships could help bring additional capital, expertise and commercial opportunities into Guyana.
For the private sector, deeper Guyana-Qatar relations could potentially create opportunities for joint ventures, trade, investment financing and new business connections.
The visit comes at a significant moment for Guyana's economy, as rising oil production continues to transform the country's investment landscape and increase international attention.
Further discussions during the state visit are expected to help determine where Guyana and Qatar can expand cooperation and translate diplomatic relations into practical business opportunities.
