SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic — The government is opening a new dialogue with the country’s heavy-transport sector as authorities seek to improve traffic management, road safety and compliance with transportation laws.

INTRANT director Juan Manuel Méndez met September 10 with Ricardo de los Santos, president of the National Federation of Dominican Transportation (FENATRADO), and members of the organization’s leadership.

During the meeting, officials evaluated alternatives for facilitating the movement of heavy vehicles while strengthening safety measures and ensuring that operators comply with existing regulations.

Méndez said that possible agreements between government institutions could be announced in the coming days, potentially bringing improvements affecting heavy vehicles and freight transportation. He emphasized that his administration would prioritize dialogue, transparency and coordination rather than unilateral decisions.

The government also highlighted the important role of freight transport in the national distribution chain and Dominican economy.

The talks could become an important part of efforts to modernize transportation policy while balancing the needs of businesses, truck operators and the wider public.
