NUEVA GERONA, Cuba — Cuba is expanding public internet access with a new ETECSA Wi-Fi zone in Nueva Gerona, on the Isla de la Juventud.

The state telecommunications company introduced the connection point at a park near the intersection of Calle 41 and streets 30 and 32. ETECSA said the initiative is intended to increase residents’ access to internet services through a public connectivity location.

The development comes as internet users across Cuba continue to report unstable mobile data, coverage problems and interruptions linked to infrastructure and electricity shortages. Reports from the island also indicated that the Isla de la Juventud experienced a major telecommunications disruption affecting mobile services and internet connectivity.

The new hotspot highlights Cuba’s continuing efforts to expand digital connectivity and public Wi-Fi infrastructure, while reliable telecommunications remain an important challenge for residents, businesses and students.
