Suriname’s National Assembly is completing preparations for President Jennifer Simons’ annual address, which will formally open the new parliamentary year and outline priorities for the 2027 service year.

The address is scheduled for Wednesday, September 30, 2026, during a special public meeting at the Congreshal in Paramaribo. Parliamentary officials have been coordinating logistical, protocol and security arrangements ahead of the event.

The annual address is an important moment in Suriname’s political calendar, providing the government with an opportunity to present its priorities for the upcoming year before Parliament.

The National Assembly had been on parliamentary recess from September 8 through September 28, although committees could continue preparatory and consultation work during the recess.

President Simons’ September 30 address is expected to set the political agenda for the next parliamentary year, with government policy and legislative priorities coming under renewed parliamentary attention.
