Suriname is opening another opportunity for offshore oil and gas investment after Staatsolie received a proposal for an area in Sector 1: SHO WEST under its Open Acreage offshore programme.
Staatsolie announced that qualified companies can submit competing proposals for the sector. The competition period began on September 22, 2026 and will remain open until December 21, 2026.
The move forms part of Staatsolie’s efforts to attract qualified international energy companies to Suriname’s offshore acreage and expand exploration activity beyond existing developments.
The announcement comes as major offshore projects continue to advance. The GranMorgu project in Block 58 is progressing toward planned offshore activities in 2027 and first oil production in 2028.
The new SHO WEST opportunity could attract additional investment, technical expertise and exploration activity to Suriname’s offshore energy sector.
