Saint Kitts and Nevis is taking on a bigger role in the Caribbean’s digital future after Technology Minister Konris Maynard was elected President of the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU).

The appointment was confirmed during the CTU’s 32nd General Conference of Ministers in French Guiana on September 23, 2026. The presidency places the Federation in a key position to help shape regional priorities for telecommunications and information and communications technology.

The latest CTU ICT Week discussions also produced regional commitments focused on stronger digital infrastructure, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence governance and more resilient telecommunications networks. Member states were encouraged to pursue opportunities under the Regional Digital Infrastructure Plan for the Caribbean.

For Saint Kitts and Nevis, these priorities are increasingly important as governments and businesses rely on digital platforms for public services, online transactions and communications. Stronger regional cooperation could help address cybersecurity risks, connectivity challenges and the need for technology skills.

The CTU presidency gives the Federation an opportunity to contribute to regional discussions on digital transformation, meaningful connectivity and emerging technologies during the organisation’s two-year leadership term.

The development puts Saint Kitts and Nevis at the centre of a wider Caribbean effort to build a safer, more connected and innovation-ready digital economy.
