BRIDGETOWN, Barbados — Barbados is preparing for an expanded season of entertainment and cultural celebration after the announcement of a new “Barbados Day” as part of the island’s 2026 Independence programme.

The latest plans will see the return of several major cultural attractions, including the National Independence Festival of Creative Arts (NIFCA), the City lighting ceremony, the Spirit of the Nation show, the Food and Rum Festival, the National Parade and Ecumenical Service.

The expanded celebrations are expected to place Barbadian music, dance, visual arts and cultural performances firmly in the spotlight, creating new opportunities for local entertainers, creative professionals and audiences.

Entertainment will also remain a major part of the wider national programme, with the celebrations culminating in the Prime Minister's Cup, a football event that has become a popular feature of Barbados' recent Independence festivities.

The announcement comes as Barbados continues to strengthen its position as a major Caribbean destination for festivals, culture and live entertainment.

For artists and entertainment fans, the return of NIFCA and other traditional events could make the 2026 Independence season one of the most significant periods of cultural activity on the island.
