Montserrat authorities are maintaining heightened attention on tropical weather as the island continues to monitor developing Atlantic systems during the 2026 hurricane season.

The Disaster Management Coordination Agency (DMCA) said on August 25 that it was monitoring AL96, a tropical disturbance in the Atlantic, while stressing that the system did not pose an immediate threat to Montserrat at that time. Residents were nevertheless encouraged to remain vigilant and maintain hurricane preparedness.

The latest monitoring comes after Montserrat also faced tropical weather alerts earlier in August, reinforcing the importance of keeping emergency plans, supplies and communication arrangements ready during the peak hurricane period.

The DMCA's continued monitoring highlights the island's emphasis on early warning and preparedness, particularly given Montserrat's exposure to Atlantic storms and other natural hazards.
