Martinique authorities have decided not to extend the overnight curfew imposed in six communes, following a noticeable decline in public disturbances over two consecutive nights.

The prefect announced on Thursday, October 22, 2026, that the restriction would not be renewed after assessing the improving security situation. The curfew had prohibited movement between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. in Fort-de-France, Le Lamentin, Saint-Joseph, Ducos, Schœlcher and Le Robert.

The decision followed a quieter night between October 21 and 22, although road blockades were still reported in 10 communes. Authorities described the incidents as largely sporadic, with limited confrontations concentrated mainly in an area of Le Robert.

The prefecture reported that no gunfire was directed at police or gendarmes during that night and no injuries were recorded. However, a commercial property in Le Lamentin was reportedly entered unlawfully, and seven people, including three minors, were arrested in connection with incidents during the night.

Officials have warned that the situation remains subject to change. The curfew could be reinstated if public disorder increases, making continued monitoring of the security situation important for residents and businesses.

The easing of restrictions offers some relief to communities affected by the recent unrest, while questions remain about how authorities will maintain public safety in the coming days.

Residents should continue following official prefecture announcements for any new security measures or travel advisories.
