KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica has unveiled a new National Sprint Performance Institute aimed at expanding world-class athlete development through modern training facilities, advanced sports science, and digital performance technologies.

Government officials, athletics federations, coaches, sports scientists, and university researchers announced investments in biomechanics laboratories, AI-powered performance analysis systems, high-speed motion capture technology, recovery centres, nutrition clinics, and strength and conditioning facilities.

Officials emphasized that investing in elite sports infrastructure will strengthen Jamaica's international athletics success while creating greater opportunities for youth athletes across the country.

The institute will provide sprint development programmes, coach education, sports medicine services, injury prevention research, athlete wellness support, and talent identification initiatives.

Sports scientists welcomed the project, highlighting the use of wearable performance technology, data analytics, reaction time testing, and personalized training plans to improve competitive performance.

National coaches praised the integration of digital training tools that enhance athlete preparation while supporting long-term career development.
