Haiti is seeking to expand international investment partnerships after the Centre de Facilitation des Investissements (CFI) used the Japan–LAC Business Forum 2026 in Tokyo to promote opportunities in the Haitian economy.
The CFI said its participation helped establish contacts with 12 Japanese business and investment prospects, with five identified for closer follow-up. The discussions covered agro-processing, infrastructure, renewable energy, logistics, technology, agriculture and the circular economy.
Among the companies and networks identified were Ataka Trading, Yutaka Trading, Toyota Tsusho Corporation and SWUNG Ltd. Potential areas include helping Haitian agricultural products such as coffee and cocoa reach the Japanese market, while other discussions involve logistics, energy, infrastructure and agricultural-waste solutions.
The CFI said it plans to prepare an English-language investment presentation for Japanese businesses and continue individual discussions with priority contacts. It also plans to strengthen links with the Association of Japanese Latin America and the Caribbean (AJALAC).
The initiative comes as Haiti seeks to attract investment despite difficult economic conditions. The IMF reported on September 28 that Haiti’s economy was expected to contract for an eighth consecutive year in FY2026, while insecurity and high oil costs continue to weigh on economic activity.
For Haiti’s business sector, the next step will be turning the newly established international contacts into structured projects, trade opportunities and investment partnerships.
