Haiti’s Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) has warned political parties, political groupings and candidates against conducting activities that could amount to premature election campaigning ahead of the country’s scheduled December 2026 elections.
In a statement dated September 28, the CEP said the official campaign period has not yet begun and reminded political actors that it is responsible for establishing and announcing the authorized campaign period under Haiti’s electoral decree. The council urged candidates and political groups to comply with the legal and regulatory framework governing the electoral process.
The warning comes as Haiti prepares for its first national elections in years. The CEP reported that 1,285 registration and voting centres were operational as of September 21, while candidate registration remains underway.
Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé has said the political transition should end through elections, as authorities work toward the December 13 first-round vote.
The CEP said it aims to conduct the electoral process in an inclusive, impartial and transparent manner while encouraging political actors to help maintain a peaceful electoral environment.
The development places increased attention on campaign rules and political preparations as Haiti moves closer to the December vote.
