At least 11 people have been killed in a deadly attack in Gros-Morne, in Haiti’s Artibonite department, as violence continues to spread beyond the capital.
The attack, reported on September 28, was attributed to members of the Kokorat San Ras armed gang, according to available information cited by Amnesty International. Several other people were reportedly injured, while homes were also set on fire.
The violence followed a Gang Suppression Force (GSF) operation targeting Kokorat San Ras positions in the area. The incident highlights the security challenges facing communities outside Port-au-Prince as international and Haitian forces attempt to expand operations against armed groups.
The United Nations Security Council has since extended the GSF mandate for six months, until March 31, 2027, as the security situation continues to deteriorate in several parts of Haiti.
The Gros-Morne attack has renewed attention on civilian protection and the expanding security crisis in Haiti’s departments outside the capital.
