PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti — Haiti is taking a new step toward strengthening its technology sector with the creation of the country’s first dedicated laboratory for cybersecurity and artificial intelligence at the University of Technology of Haiti (UNITECH).

The initiative is designed to support research, professional training and collaboration in cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and broader digital transformation.

The new laboratory could become an important platform for developing Haiti’s technology talent and strengthening the country’s digital security capabilities.

The project emerged from an international symposium held by UNITECH on July 29 and 30, bringing together government representatives, academics, researchers, technology professionals and innovation leaders.

International partners from Tunisia, Canada and Cameroon are contributing expertise to the initiative, creating opportunities for knowledge exchange and specialised training.

Cybersecurity is becoming increasingly important as Haitian organisations expand their use of digital systems, online services and electronic communications.

Artificial intelligence is also creating new opportunities in education, business, finance and public administration, while increasing demand for skilled technology professionals.
