Authorities in the Dominican Republic have arrested eight people in Barahona following a series of coordinated raids targeting suspected criminal activity in several communities across the province.
The operation was carried out on October 2 by agents of the National Police, including DICRIM and DINTEL units, working with the Public Prosecutor’s Office. Searches took place in Paraíso, Enriquillo, Vicente Noble, Bahoruco and the municipality of Barahona.
Police reported the seizure of three firearms, including two 9mm pistols and a 12-gauge shotgun, along with 20 rounds of ammunition. Authorities also recovered RD$636,000 in cash, 11 bladed weapons, four mobile phones and other items considered relevant to the investigations.
The eight detainees and seized evidence are being placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office for the next legal steps. Authorities said the investigations will determine the responsibilities that may arise from the cases.
The operation comes as Dominican authorities continue expanding coordinated police investigations and patrol operations in different regions of the country.
The Barahona raids highlight an ongoing law-enforcement focus on firearms, suspected criminal networks and public security in the southern Dominican Republic.
