The Dominican Republic Senate has formed bicameral commissions to examine two major legislative matters: the country’s proposed 2027 General State Budget and planned changes to the Civil Code.

The commissions were established on September 30 as Congress prepares to review the government’s proposed spending framework for next year. The 2027 budget is reported at approximately RD$2.08 trillion.

The budget review will give legislators from both chambers a formal forum to examine government spending plans, allocations and the broader fiscal framework for 2027.

The Senate has also assigned a bicameral commission to study proposed modifications to the Dominican Civil Code, allowing senators and deputies to review the legal changes before the legislation advances through Congress.

The committee process comes as lawmakers continue working on several major legislative initiatives. Recent congressional activity has also included reforms involving the Public Ministry and other areas of national legislation.

The new commissions place the 2027 budget and Civil Code reform among the Dominican Congress’s current legislative priorities.
