ROSEAU, Dominica — A new digital skills and vocational training programme is giving 150 unemployed and underemployed young people in Dominica access to free training over the next year.

The Business Training Centre (BTC) received funding from the Maria Holder Memorial Trust for the programme, which runs from September 2026 to September 2027 under the theme “Digital Inclusion and Skills Development for Unemployed Youth in Dominica.”

The initiative is designed to respond to skills needs in Dominica’s labour market, with digital literacy incorporated across the training courses.

Priority is being given to people who did not complete their schooling, single parents and individuals from lower-income households. The programme combines vocational preparation with digital skills intended to improve participants’ access to employment opportunities.

The training initiative also supports Dominica’s wider digital-transformation goals. The country’s US$28 million Caribbean Digital Transformation Project includes efforts to expand digital skills, broadband access, digital financial services and technology adoption by small businesses.

The new programme places digital inclusion, workforce development and technology skills at the centre of efforts to prepare young Dominicans for an increasingly digital economy.
