HAVANA, Cuba — Cuban sports authorities have introduced a major national initiative centered on the creation of a National Sports Science and Performance Centre designed to modernize athlete preparation through advanced scientific training methods.
Officials announced investments in biomechanics laboratories, sports medicine clinics, strength and conditioning facilities, performance analytics systems, rehabilitation centres, recovery technology, and digital athlete monitoring platforms.
Authorities stated that combining sports science with elite coaching will strengthen athlete development, improve international competitiveness, and support the next generation of Cuban sporting talent.
The centre will provide support for athletics, boxing, wrestling, volleyball, baseball, judo, gymnastics, weightlifting, swimming, cycling, and other high-performance sports.
National coaches welcomed the initiative, noting that scientific performance analysis, injury prevention programs, and personalized training plans will help athletes reach higher competitive standards.
Sports medicine specialists highlighted that modern rehabilitation technology, nutrition planning, physiological testing, and recovery monitoring will improve athlete wellbeing while extending sporting careers.
Educational institutions and youth sports academies will collaborate with the centre to expand coaching education, talent identification, and sports science research programs.
