ROSEAU, Dominica — Newly elected Roseau North Parliamentary Representative Ashma McDougall formally entered Dominica’s Parliament on September 22 after taking the Oath of Allegiance during the latest sitting of the House.

McDougall's swearing-in followed her September 7 Roseau North by-election victory, marking her official commencement as the constituency's parliamentary representative.

The parliamentary sitting also placed several significant policy and financial measures on the agenda. Lawmakers considered a Bill to amend the Banking Act, an amendment to the Schedule of the Value Added Tax Act and a resolution seeking approval for an International Development Association (IDA) credit facility.

The IDA financing is linked to a Programmatic Development Policy Credit focused on strengthening Dominica’s fiscal and climate resilience, including domestic revenue mobilisation, financial-sector resilience, biodiversity and disaster preparedness.

The sitting therefore combined the formal arrival of a newly elected representative with consideration of legislation and financing measures affecting Dominica’s economic and public-policy framework.

The parliamentary developments are expected to keep governance, financial legislation and fiscal resilience in focus as the Fourth Session of the Eleventh Parliament continues.
