ST. JOHN'S, Antigua and Barbuda — Antigua and Barbuda has unveiled a National High-Performance Sports Centre aimed at strengthening athlete development through advanced training technologies, world-class coaching, and modern sports science facilities.
Government officials, national sporting organizations, coaches, sports scientists, and education partners announced investments in biomechanics laboratories, AI-powered performance analysis, recovery and rehabilitation centres, nutrition programmes, and athlete development pathways.
Officials emphasized that investing in elite sports infrastructure will create greater opportunities for young athletes while strengthening Antigua and Barbuda's international sporting profile.
The centre will provide specialized programmes in athletics, cricket, football, swimming, basketball, and other competitive sports, alongside sports medicine, mental performance coaching, injury prevention, and coach education initiatives.
Sports scientists welcomed the project, highlighting wearable performance technology, motion analysis systems, reaction testing, and personalized training plans that enhance athletic performance while reducing injury risks.
National coaches praised expanded access to professional development resources, explaining that the centre creates a structured pathway for athletes to compete successfully at regional and international levels.
Educational institutions also welcomed partnerships supporting sports science research, scholarships, and career opportunities for students pursuing sports management and athletic performance.
