PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad and Tobago — Minister of Public Administration and Artificial Intelligence Dominic Smith has received the CANTO Ministerial Award for ICT Leadership & Digital Transformation 2026, marking a significant recognition of Trinidad and Tobago’s technology agenda.

The award was announced by the Ministry of Public Administration and Artificial Intelligence on August 12, 2026.

The recognition comes as Trinidad and Tobago accelerates efforts to expand artificial intelligence, digital government and ICT infrastructure.

The ministry has identified ethical and responsible artificial intelligence as a major national priority, including work on assessing the country’s readiness for AI adoption.

Government technology initiatives also include an open-data platform, AI Centres providing technology resources in underserved communities, free TTWiFi connectivity and LearnTT digital learning resources.

The award puts renewed attention on the country’s ambition to build a more digitally capable public service.

Trinidad and Tobago is also pursuing greater regional cooperation on artificial intelligence and digital transformation, reflecting the growing importance of technology to Caribbean development.
