Prime Minister Dr. Godwin Friday has called on Vincentians in Taiwan to play a stronger role in the development of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, urging the diaspora to use its knowledge, skills and international experience to benefit the country.

Friday made the appeal during a meeting with Vincentians in Taipei during his official visit to Taiwan, which coincided with the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between SVG and Taiwan.

The Prime Minister highlighted education, technology and diaspora engagement as important tools for improving living standards and strengthening SVG's economy.

He also pointed to Taiwan's advanced technological and industrial capabilities as areas from which Saint Vincent and the Grenadines could learn, including opportunities connected to healthcare, marine industries and other sectors.

Friday said his administration is focusing on agriculture, tourism, the blue economy and the new economy, including creative industries, as key areas for economic growth.

The Prime Minister also promoted greater public-private partnerships and private investment, saying SVG must find ways to expand economic activity while dealing with fiscal pressures.

The government's latest message places the Vincentian diaspora at the centre of its development strategy, with overseas nationals being encouraged to bring skills, investment, innovation and international connections back to SVG.
