A burglary investigation at Saint Lucia’s Hewanorra International Airport has widened, with police confirming that more than 10 people have been interviewed as investigators search for answers about a missing vault and pistol.
The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force said the Vieux Fort Police Station received a report of the burglary at the Customs and Excise office on Sunday, October 18, at approximately 2:20 p.m. A team from the Criminal Investigations Department was dispatched to investigate.
In an update issued on Thursday, October 22, police said more than 10 persons of interest had been interviewed and searches had been carried out as the investigation progressed.
The probe involves cooperation among the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force, Customs and Excise, and Ports Police. Authorities have not publicly identified anyone as responsible, and the details surrounding the missing items have not yet been fully explained.
The incident has raised questions about security at an important national gateway used by international travellers and cargo operations. The Customs and Excise office plays a key role in border control and the handling of imported goods, making the investigation a matter of public interest.
Police say efforts are continuing to bring the case to a resolution. Further information may be released as investigators establish the circumstances of the reported burglary and seek to recover the missing items.
