Martinique is placing greater attention on mental health in the workplace, with territorial public-service professionals gathering for a dedicated prevention seminar in Le Lamentin.

The Centre de Gestion de la Fonction Publique Territoriale de Martinique (CDG Martinique) organised the Santé Mentale des Acteurs Territoriaux (SMAT) seminar on September 22 and 23, bringing together around 150 directors, human-resources officials, occupational-health professionals and other prevention stakeholders.

The programme focused on workplace mental health, professional exhaustion, psychological distress and psychosocial risks, with conferences, workshops, discussions and practical experiences aimed at improving prevention and support for public-sector employees.

The CDG Martinique said the initiative is intended to encourage a stronger culture of prevention and dialogue within territorial authorities. The second day also brought together mayors and elected officials to discuss their responsibilities for occupational health and safety.

The initiative comes as a June survey of Martinique's territorial authorities found that 83% of human-resources directors reported an increase in situations of workplace distress among employees.
