PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti — Haiti’s electoral authorities have extended the deadline for political candidates to complete registration for the country’s long-delayed 2026 electoral process.

The Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) announced that the candidate-registration operation, originally scheduled to run through October 2, has now been extended to October 14, 2026, following requests from political parties and groups.

Under the revised schedule, online candidate registration will continue through September 20, while candidates must submit required documents between September 13 and 22. The preliminary list of registered candidates is expected on September 29, followed by challenges and appeals before the final approved list is published on October 14.

The CEP said the additional time is intended to help political organizations complete the required procedures and emphasized its commitment to an inclusive, transparent and impartial electoral process.

The development is significant as Haiti prepares for elections after years of political instability and delays, with the electoral process taking place amid continuing security challenges.
