POINTE-À-PITRE, Guadeloupe — Guadeloupe is under a yellow weather alert as Tropical Wave No. 47 moves across the Lesser Antilles, bringing the threat of heavy showers, thunderstorms and strong wind gusts.
Weather conditions are expected to become more unsettled on Tuesday, October 6, with frequent and sometimes intense rainfall forecast across the archipelago. Authorities warn that no area can be completely ruled out, although Basse-Terre, the Pointe-à-Pitre region and Grands-Fonds could receive the heaviest rainfall.
Local forecasts indicate that some areas could record 40 to 70 millimetres of rain within three hours, with around 30 millimetres possible in just one hour.
Residents and motorists are being urged to exercise caution, particularly around flood-prone roads, rivers, mountain areas and low-lying crossings. Outdoor and marine activities could also become hazardous during periods of intense weather.
Conditions are expected to improve later Tuesday, although another period of heavy showers could affect Guadeloupe on Wednesday as the tropical wave continues to influence the region.
The developing weather situation is likely to remain a key concern for residents, commuters and businesses across Guadeloupe as authorities monitor the system.
