POINTE-À-PITRE, Guadeloupe — Guadeloupe is recording a significant increase in entrepreneurial activity, with 4,050 businesses created during the first five months of 2026, according to the latest figures from Bpifrance Création based on INSEE data.

The January-to-May total represents a 21.4% increase compared with the 3,335 businesses created during the same period in 2025.

May alone recorded 724 new business creations, up 20.3% from 602 in May 2025. The latest monthly figure also exceeded the five-year May average of 644 new businesses.

The figures point to stronger entrepreneurial activity across Guadeloupe's non-agricultural commercial economy, with new ventures continuing to enter the market despite wider economic pressures.

The increase could provide opportunities for employment, local investment and the expansion of services across the archipelago.

The strong pace of business creation is also placing greater attention on access to financing, business support and market opportunities for new entrepreneurs.

For policymakers and economic organisations, sustaining this momentum will be important as new companies move from initial registration into longer-term operations and job creation.

The latest figures provide an encouraging signal for Guadeloupe's business environment, while also highlighting the importance of ensuring that newly created enterprises can survive and grow.

With more than 4,000 businesses launched in just five months, entrepreneurship is emerging as one of the territory's notable economic trends for 2026.
