ROSEAU, Dominica — Dominica has officially launched a National Sports Performance Centre designed to strengthen athlete development, modernize sports training, and provide world-class performance support for competitors across multiple sporting disciplines.

Government officials, national sporting associations, coaches, sports scientists, educators, healthcare professionals, and youth organizations introduced the facility featuring AI-powered performance analytics, biomechanics laboratories, recovery centres, nutrition services, and professional coaching programmes.

Officials stated that investing in advanced sports infrastructure will improve athlete performance, encourage youth participation, and strengthen Dominica's presence at regional and international sporting competitions.

The centre supports football, athletics, cricket, basketball, volleyball, swimming, cycling, and other competitive sports through personalized training plans, injury prevention programmes, sports psychology services, and modern fitness assessments.

Sports scientists welcomed the initiative, explaining that wearable performance technology, motion analysis systems, reaction testing, and AI-assisted coaching help athletes optimize training and reduce injury risks.

National coaches praised expanded access to high-performance facilities, noting that structured athlete development pathways will prepare competitors for Caribbean championships, Commonwealth events, and international tournaments.

Educational institutions also announced partnerships supporting sports science research, coaching certification, athlete scholarships, and youth leadership development through sport.

Community organizations welcomed expanded grassroots sports programmes expected to increase participation while identifying future elite athletes across the island.

Officials confirmed that additional regional competitions, international coaching exchanges, and sports development programmes will continue during future implementation phases.

The latest initiative reflects Dominica's commitment to sporting excellence, youth development, and long-term investment in competitive athletics.
