BRIDGETOWN, Barbados — Barbados is closely monitoring a tropical wave in the Atlantic that could bring wetter and more unsettled conditions to the island in the coming days.

The Barbados Meteorological Services reported that the system was located about 1,338 miles east of Barbados and was associated with a broad area of disorganised thunderstorms.

There are currently no tropical storm watches or warnings in effect for Barbados, but meteorologists say conditions could produce increased showers and thunderstorms as the system moves west to west-northwest.

The weather service said environmental conditions are marginally favourable for some slow development.

Residents are being encouraged to monitor official weather updates, particularly as wind speeds are expected to decrease and temperatures could feel hotter before the wetter conditions arrive.

Marine interests should also remain alert, as changing weather conditions could contribute to rougher seas and hazardous conditions for small vessels.

The system is being watched as the Atlantic hurricane season continues, although its current development does not mean that Barbados is facing a tropical storm or hurricane threat.
