Belize is taking another step to strengthen healthcare safety and medicine quality through a new initiative focused on monitoring medicines and vaccines after they reach the market.

The Ministry of Health and Wellness is working with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) to advance the operationalization of Belize’s national post-market surveillance system.

The initiative is designed to strengthen the country’s ability to identify and respond to potential safety or quality concerns involving medicines and vaccines.

Improved post-market surveillance can help health authorities collect information on medical products already being used by patients and healthcare providers, supporting faster identification of potential problems.

The development is part of Belize’s broader effort to strengthen pharmacovigilance and health-system quality, while aligning national practices with international standards.

Stronger medicine and vaccine monitoring could provide another layer of protection for Belizean patients, particularly as the country continues modernising its national healthcare system.

The PAHO-supported initiative also highlights the growing importance of reliable health data and regulatory systems in maintaining public confidence in medicines and vaccines.
