Aruba’s aviation business sector is preparing for a new operational framework after Aruba Airport Authority (AAA) signed updated ground-handling agreements with Swissport and General Air Services Inc. (GenAir).

Announced on October 12, the agreements cover services at Queen Beatrix International Airport and are designed to strengthen operational safety, security, service quality and sustainability. The renewed arrangements will take effect on January 1, 2027.

Following a review of existing operations, AAA decided to continue working with its two established service providers instead of opening a new selection process. The updated agreements introduce common expectations for staff training, equipment maintenance, operational performance and compliance with airport regulations.

A key business development is the commitment by both companies to invest in and upgrade ground-service equipment, including a gradual transition toward electric and lower-emission machinery. AAA will consider the airport infrastructure needed to support that transition as part of its wider development and sustainability plans.

Ground handling supports airlines and passengers through essential services before and after flights. Improving these operations can help the airport maintain reliability as Aruba continues to serve international visitors and airline partners.

The new agreements signal a focus on long-term investment and operational efficiency, while positioning the airport’s service providers to meet evolving aviation standards.
