ST. JOHN’S, Antigua and Barbuda — Antigua and Barbuda is placing stronger emphasis on expanding trade, investment and business links with Africa, with the Government calling for practical measures that could create new opportunities for local companies and investors.
Prime Minister Gaston Browne recently said Africa-Caribbean relations should move beyond diplomatic statements toward stronger economic partnerships involving trade, investment, technology, tourism, transportation and entrepreneurship.
A major priority is improved air connectivity. Foreign Affairs Minister Chet Greene has called for direct air links between Africa and the Caribbean, arguing that easier travel would help businesses develop partnerships, expand markets and encourage investment between the two regions.
The Government is also highlighting cooperation with the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) as part of efforts to improve access to capital and strengthen trade and investment opportunities.
For Antigua and Barbuda’s private sector, the initiative could create new possibilities in tourism, financial services, technology, transportation, agriculture and international business.
With the country preparing to host the 2026 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, international trade and investment partnerships are expected to remain an important part of the economic agenda.
