Inactive voters in the U.S. Virgin Islands can still cast ballots in the upcoming general election, according to a clarification issued by the Elections System of the Virgin Islands on October 8.

Supervisor of Elections Caroline F. Fawkes is encouraging residents to check their voter registration status before visiting a polling location as election preparations continue across St. Croix, St. Thomas and St. John.

Officials explained that voters listed as inactive remain registered. They may update their registration before 7 p.m. on Election Day, but must complete an affirmation confirming their current and continuous residence in the territory before voting.

Once the required voting process is completed, the voter's registration status will be returned to active. Residents can check their registration online through the official Elections System website or contact their district election office for assistance.

The announcement serves as an important reminder for voters who may be uncertain about their status, particularly those who have moved or have not recently participated in an election.

With the general election approaching, confirming registration details early could help eligible Virgin Islands residents avoid unnecessary delays and exercise their voting rights.
